ML110G6 B110i RAID controller problem

I have two ML110G6s configured with 4Gb RAM and 4*2Gb WD Green HDs, configured as two DISKS of size 100Gb and 3.7Gb using RAID 10. They are used as a fileserver and a backup fileserver.
The main fileserver works fine, however the backup has a RAID issue. Every so often it chucks a random physical disk out of the RAID, often with a CISSESRV message of TIMEOUT. There is nothing wrong with any of the disks, and a simple reboot will bring the disk back into the array and the RAID will rebuild.
Any thoughts?

Re: ML110G6 B110i RAID controller problem

Hi Johnson,

Hope, Logical drive status is healthy as per array configuration utility.

CISSESRV is HP Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service which provides events to windows events log and IML.

So check whether any windows event is generated.

Update the B110i raid controller driver.
cp013027.exe (709 KB)

Upgrade the System ROM and B110i Firmware
7.Download and install System ROM Version Version: 2010.09.06 (30 Sep 2010) This will also upgrade the firmware on the B110i Controller.
cp013850.exe (1.8 MB)

Please note : latest firmware and driver revision has lot of fixes.

Run the Array diagnostic utility to findout the raid issue and share the report.

Hope this helps,
thanks

Re: ML110G6 B110i RAID controller problem

The ROM and drivers are all uptodate. I should have specified running Windows Foundation Server 2008 R2 x64, so the releveant file that was installed was ROMPAQ SP50457.exe

Attached is the latest ADU report, though am unsure if it contains anything useful as the RAID is currently happy and rebuilding.

Re: ML110G6 B110i RAID controller problem

HI Johnson,

thanks for sharing the info.

I'm not able to open the ADU report shared.. if possible, can you save it in notepad and share it once again.

what about event logs... did you notice/observe any error messages there?

where did you get CISSESRV timeout message?

What is the frequency of these errors? what about disabling the SAS/SATA Notification Service just to isolate.

What is the firmware revision of Sata hard drives?

thanks,
Aftab

Re: ML110G6 B110i RAID controller problem

all the drives are at version 51.0AB51. There does not seem to be any newer firmware for the WD20EARS.
