ML115 G5 - HD failure in RAID - how to know?

Sorry, another newb question. If I set up RAID5 (3x500Gb disks) how does one 'know' if one of the drives fails? Does a error message appear? If so, does this mean the server should be connected to a monitor?

The raid controllers are not smart enough to send out event notifications. So you need a software that continually monitors the status of the raid controller and it (the software) sends out event notifications.

Look at the whole collection software for your server.

The event notification is towards the bottom. Or look here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3683705&prodNameId=3683706&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-a9cf5ea7c23146978feec7390a
