ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

I have 2 ML115 G5 servers and both are clocking many event ID: 129 nvstor errors with the message:

reset ot device \device\raidport0

the machines regularly freeze for several seconds and this appears to match the blocks of entries in the logs.

today it has BSOD with:

DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop 0xD1

nvstor.sys

have tried to reinstall the drivers but windows (sbs 2008) prefers thos already installed!

Any help appreciated!

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Should be possible to force it to use the drivers provided by HP/nvidia?

On another note, have you looked into maybe upgrading firmware on the ML115 G5?

Maybe this thread will help you out some more as well:

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Thanks for the response

I've not been able to 'force' it to us another driver!

Which firmware would I upgrade??

Reviewed the thread but most of these users are not running server OS and seem to have 'fixed' the problem with Windows updates. This SBS2008 install has all the current updates installed.

it's now blue screening at least once a day!!!!

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Again THANKS!

I have visited the page suggested but the drivers indicated are for the Smart Array.

We are on the embeded SATA interfaces here, which I understand are Nvidia.

currently this machine is not running with RAID enabled.

current SATA driver is 5.0.2600.0833

BIOS I can upgrade, but didn't want to compound the existing problem........

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Maybe you already have the latest BIOS as it is from 2009.

Have you tried to do that? Install the driver in compatibility mode?

Or maybe extract the drivers from the downloadable .exe file and browse to them? That don't work either?

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Again THanks, your time is appreciated.

I will try this over the weekend as I can't get any more down time from the increasingly upset customer!

However I suspect as its not currently running RAID (and that's another issue) the drivers for the normal SATA are needed and don't seem to be available for download from HP.......

Most frustrating, as my spare server (exactly the same hardware) on a clean SBS 2008 install exhibits the same event ID 129 errors in the log.....

both boxes are 14 months old.....

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Your spare server, does it use the same driver as on the other one? Does it blue screen too?

The driver I was talking about was this "RECOMMENDED * HP ProLiant Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition"

Doesn't say RAID there.

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

True!

However its for the smart array, not the embedded SATA controller.

as I understand it!!

I'm just downloading the easy setup CD to see what's on that......

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Yeah, but it isn't the only other storage driver available there and the version numbering of the driver is quite similar. I hope it's the same.

Re: ML115 G5 hangs with nvstor.sys error

Downloaded this and I think I'm right, this is the hpcisss2.sys not nvstor.sys
