ML115 G5 - running very slow..

ok got a ML115 G5 on a customers site where they are experiencing very slow response reading and writing to there drives as far as i can tell its to do with the SATA controller as its in a Mirrored mode with 4 Drives 2 by 2.

the CPU usuage is nothing and there is still plenty of RAM but the page file is at 5Gig the only thing i can think of its a controller issue.. is there any advice anyone can give or any logs that would help?

Operating system:
Server 2003 SBS 6 Exchange accounts running 32bit
3GB of ram

Re: ML115 G5 - running very slow..

When you say mirrored mode, what exactly do you mean? Are the two mirrored pairs in raid1 or in raid10?

How big are the drives?

How many logical disks are created and what sizes?

How many OS partitions in each disk?

Have you run some i/o tests to pinpoint the issue?

Have you checked the raid controller status for any errors?

The configuration is raid 1

How big are the drives?
250gb

How many logical disks are created and what sizes?
should be 4 physical disks, 2 Logical 232gb as read/writeable NTFS format ;)

How many OS partitions in each disk?
1

issue is i only can access it remote currently..

Have you checked the raid controller status for any errors?

Re: ML115 G5 - running very slow..

What are the specific partitions used for?

Which SBS are you running?

Users don't "read" and "write" to drives, they perform operations. What are they doing specifically?

Is access to the internet slow?

Re: ML115 G5 - running very slow..

Did this started recently? What changed in the server? Additional exchange volume?

Rub some tests on the disks to see where the problem is. iozone is a good tool for i/o tests or some crude reading/writing/copying of large files. Maybe there is no i/o issue and Exchange is choking on something.
