ML115G5 / SATA disk: impossible to update firmware?
I have an ML115G5 with 4 500GB HDs which hs
a lot of problems with linux (crash on intensive I/O).
I have tried to update from HPG0 to HPG1 firmware, using this link:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=3885791&swItem=MTX-7bd71da2a0094eaca36007e3f7&prodNameId=3885792&swEnvOID=4022&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=2
but I have a problem: this firmware can
be used to update HD firmware ONLY on ML3xx
because it require storage controllers which
isn't presents on ML115G5(which have an
nVidia NFORCE).
How can I update the disks firmware using
only my ML115G5?
TIA

Re: ML115G5 / SATA disk: impossible to update firmware?
May i ask you what are your problems like?
I've also got GB0500EAFYL disks on linux with some serious problems (HPG1 F/W), please see my post below.

Re: ML115G5 / SATA disk: impossible to update firmware?
I have a software RAID1 (mdadm). I have
two problem:
1) slow resync speed (about 8MB/sec)
2) when I try to restore from a DLT about
10GB of data (single test file) I obtain
a lot of disk write error on sdb due
to too long disk reply time. After some
minute system crash due to excessive
sdb failure
Please, could you confirm me that you have
an HPG1 (G-one) firmware?
I have hoped that an upgrade from HPG0 could
solve the problem, but if you have the same problems with HPG1 ... :(
TIA

---
physicaldrive 1I:1:1
Port: 1I
Box: 1
Bay: 1
Status: Predictive Failure
Drive Type: Data Drive
Interface Type: SATA
Size: 500 GB
Firmware Revision: HPG1
Serial Number: WCASYXXXXXXX
Model: ATA GB0500EAFYL
SATA NCQ Capable: True
SATA NCQ Enabled: True
PHY Count: 1
PHY Transfer Rate: 3.0GBPS
---
What i cannot confirm, unfortunately, is that the cause for my problem are the drives.
From the ADUCLI i can see the various error counters on a disk as >0 though (including "Other Time Outs"), which remotely would indicate an issue.
---
DRQ Time Outs 0x0000
Other Time Outs 0x131b
Drive Rebuild Count 3 (0x0003)
Spin Retries 65535 (0xffff)
Recovers Failed Read 0x01e0
Recovers Failed Write 0x0001
Format Errors 0x0000
Self Test Failures 0x0000
Not Ready Failures 0x00000000
Remap Abort Failures 0x00000000
IRQ Deglitch Count 0 (0x00000000)
Bus Faults 0x00000036
Hot Plug Count 5 (0x00000005)
----
Well, HP is working on my problem as we speak. I'll let you know if something turns up.
By the way, are your drives also WD (from the label on the top)?

TH
