ML115G5 fans always low speed
Morning
I have an ML115G5 which as expected runs it's fans in v.fast mode through the POST, then they slow to a wisper, which is good :)
However even when the room temperature is 30*C, they remain on the slow speed.
The machine is running ESXi 4 (I realise not supported).
I wondered if it needs some OS drivers to control the fan speeds (again, I realise these wouldn't be available for ESXi anyway)?
Thanks

Re: ML115G5 fans always low speed
Have you got any logs where you can see the server temp during these temperatue peaks? Might be so simple that server has stayed chilled.
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra.

Re: ML115G5 fans always low speed
Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there is no OS visibility to temperatures on this machine (without the iLO fitted).

Re: ML115G5 fans always low speed
Update - I noticed the fan RPMs are given in the system BIOS. I tested the machine by steadily increasing the ambient temperature around the machine.
At 20*C the system fan runs at about 2000 RPM. The fans are being speed controlled and even at 32*C, with the system fan running above 3000 RPM, there is almost no increase in noise.
I didn't want to push it any higher but since the machine lists the max being 45*C in the BIOS I would presume things start to get noisy towards that.
For interest the CPU temperature seems to be regulated to near 60*C.
