ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

Hello,

I'm going round in circles trying to install 2003 server on my proliant ml150.

I have downloaded, extracted and attempted to use cp005778 in the F6 bit of the server install, but it just keeps asking for the manufacturers hardware disk.

I think this is the right driver because it is the one offered in the ML150-Raid controller section on the HP support site but even having opened the case, I can't make a positive ID of the card in question.

Can someone help me out here? I'm on a very tight deadline and I'm not familiar with these machines. I just want to get 2003 on asap. It had 2003 SBS on before but the licence belonged to another company so I formatted the drives in the array. I'm hoping that that wasn't the wrong thing to do.

Many many thanks for any help.

Hi,

Check the attached file.

make sure you will extract the correct driver, If need help let me know the Generation for the server and if the w2k3 is 32 bits or 64 bits

Re: ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

That's going to be a big help, thank you.

I still need some help to be certain that I have the right driver. The label on the front of the case says "Proliant ML150", no G number. I haven't seen any of the other machines so I don't know if the G number is usually obvious or not.

In answer to your second question, I downloaded the win2k3 ISO from a file sharing app. I don't know what version it is. I have attached a screenshot of the contents of the ISO in case that helps. If not, maybe you could tell me how to check.

A big thank you for your help with this. You're getting me out of a big pile of poo.

Mmmmm, hard to find out by checking the Pic however If the machine do not says the G is because is G1 and a G1 do not support windows for extended systems (64 bits) so, check the link and jump to driver-storage controller.

Re: ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

Ok, so I've got the latest version of the driver from the HP support site... cp005778.exe and have extracted the files.

There are 2 *.inf files in there. Should I choose multi driver? If not, which file do I use in single driver?

And... these drivers are for Smart Array Controllers and mine shows Adaptec at startup. Is it just rebadged or something? Or should I be looking for a different driver?

Re: ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

The drivers are for Smart Array 5300, 5i, 532, 5312, 6i, 641, 642,6400, 6400OEM.

How do I know which one to use?

I have been unable to find any docs on HP website explaining what controller comes with the ML150G1 or how to identify it.

I have looked in the case but there are no identifying marks.

Re: ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

I've downloaded and unpacked the other drivers on offer on the ML150 storage controller driver list.

Using nlite to read the inf files, I have determined that the following downloads supported the following cards:

cp007770 LSI Logic Fusion-MPT U320 Driver (Server 2003 32-bit)
cp005778 Smart Array 5300, 5i, 532, 5312, 6i, 641, 642,6400, 6400OEM
u320dsk1 Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI Cards

I have just created a server 2003 install CD with the u320dsk1 drivers integrated, but it still didn't find the disk during install.

Surely someone else out there has already had to resolve this, or HP knows what they put in the system when they made it and have it documented somewhere. I've looked all over the site and can't find either details of what card I have installed or the drivers for it.

In case it sheds any light, during boot it says Adaptec Hostraid SATA.

Again, any help much appreciated.

Danny.

Re: ML150 Adaptec Hostraid Driver, 2003 Install

Fixed it.

For completeness for those, who have come across this thread because they have this problem, here's how I got it to work...

The ML150 support and downloads page doesn't mention SATA drivers. Even better than that, the SATA driver for this machine is incorrectly labelled as "HP ProLiant ML 150 G2 Embedded SATA Controller Windows Driver" when of course the card labelled "HP Part No - 370901-001" is not embedded. Further to this, I could not get the driver to load using the prescribed floppy method. I had to use nlite to integrate it into the 2003 server installation.

See this article:

And the excellent nlite doc provided to me by Juan Guesada (attached above).
