ML150 G3 2nd CPU, NO BOOT

I have an ML150 G3 with a single CPU running for about a year and recently bought a 2nd CPU upgrade kit. The 2 CPUs are identical original HP parts (same part number, chip, etc.). The server will run with either CPU in either slot but will not boot at all when both CPUs are installed. The red error LED for slot 1 is on and the fans just run regardless of which CPU is in slot 1. (I have tried all combinations.) Since the CPU works fine, I can't return the kit. What could be the problem? Any suggestions?

Hi,

install the new CPU in slot 1 boot the server and update the BIOS

After that try again with both CPUs

I already have the latest bios and lights-out firmware running. I have literally tried every combination of adding the CPUs. Nothing seems to work.

hi

so latest system ROM
and you already tried each individual CPU in slot 1 and they work

and also you have tried swapping CPUs also?

did you already try clear CMOS?

Re: ML150 G3 2nd CPU, NO BOOT

I have newest ROM.

CPU-A works in slot one.
CPU-B works in slot one.
No Boot = CPU-A in slot1, and CPU-B in slot2
No Boot = CPU-B in slot1, and CPU-A in slot2

I haven't reset the CMOS, but I did re-flash the ROM, which I assume reset everything to default.

I have opened a technical request with HP. I'll report any results from that here.

Re: ML150 G3 2nd CPU, NO BOOT

Maybe you have 2 processors with diffrent stepping numbers.I had the same problem!
I order one defective processor from a server with two processors.I tried to find
a processor with the same stepping number ( Intel have 3 processors with the same caracteristics but with diffrent stepping number).HP offer only one part number for that processor. So when i receave the processor ofcourse they do not match.
What can i do?
I ordered another one so i have a pair and i resolved the problem!

Alex did you ever get a solution to your
CPU problem? I am having the same thing
happen when I try to install a second CPU in my ML150 G3.

Re: ML150 G3 2nd CPU, NO BOOT

I upgraded to the latest BIOS version
2007.09.22 which allowed one 5345 CPU to
work. When I add the second 5345 the fans just run at high speed and no post. Both
CPU's test good in the first socket.

Re: ML150 G3 2nd CPU, NO BOOT

Unfortunately I still have not found the solution to this problem. My second HP 300├в ┬м CPU is sittiing on the shelf collecting dust. The server in question is in use, so I can only mess with for a few hours each month.
I checked the stepping.
I think I looked through all bios settings.

Let me add that support for this problem has been awful from HP and my opinion of their products and service has dropped way down.
