ML150 G3 No Start with Roaring Fan

The server was working fine for a few months, the customer shut the server down for approximately 4 month, turn it back on and nothing on the monitor, fans roar at full capacity.

Troubleshooting Done:
1. unplug all drives, raid cards etc
2. pulled memory modules one at a time
3. reseat the processor
4. removed the internal battery for a few mins.

Any other troublshooting thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Try using the
SW2 CMOS reset button on the system board,
(The system board has a system configuration (CMOS) button (SW2). To clear system configuration, disconnect AC power and press the CMOS button.)

Also check for any amber led on the system board.

Akarsh

Thank you for your response. I believe I did that already however I'll give it another shot tonight. It's possible I did it with the server not unpluged. Will update the thread.

Re: ML150 G3 No Start with Roaring Fan

hi,

almost sure it is a faulty systemboard...

you can try minimal config(1cpu, 1 memory module, no PCI cards), but in almost all cases - systemboard, hope you have warranty

Re: ML150 G3 No Start with Roaring Fan

I tried the CMOS button, left the battery out for 5 mins, not difference. I removed one memory module and got a fast flashing light on the motherboard, the memory module surprisingly got very hot to the touch, both modules do the same thing. Also I noticed once the CD-ROM IDE ribbon cable is plugged into the motherboard, it doesn't eject at all. I do think it's the motherboard and I don't have warranty, I purchased the server on June 10 2007.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again Everyone!
