ML150 G3 SAS raid problem

Hi all,

We have a ML150 G3 (438786-421) with 2 SAS 149GB drives configured as RAID1. The 2 drives were 3 years old so we replaced them for new ones. The new drives are 300GB and already swapped with the older smaller ones.
Everything is running nice and the mirror rebuild was OK.

We did a hot-swap of a drive, rebuild the mirror, hot-swap the second drive and rebuild the mirror again.

The server had an LSI SAS3000 series, 8-port with 1068-Storport raid controler. I installed the MegaRAID software but it is just for monitoring.

But I am not able to figure out how to resize the mirror to 300GB. I only have 149GB available instead of 300GB.
What to do?

What you did was the first step in the process. You expanded the disk array with larger disks. Now you have to rely on the raid controller's capabilities and the management software to use the extra space. Either you create additional logical disks or expand the existing one (as you indicated you want to do). This would be the second step.

What is this LSI 3000 series? Is it a real LSI or an HP labeled LSI? Specify the exact model of the controller.

If it is HP SA controller, use the HP ACU to manage the arrays, otherwise stick with the megaraid software.

It is not clear if this controller and the megaraid software has dynamic expansion features.

Hi TTr,

How do I figure out "What is this LSI 3000 series? Is it a real LSI or an HP labeled LSI? Specify the exact model of the controller." ?

Re: ML150 G3 SAS raid problem

Was the server purchased from HP and was the controller already installed as an HP product? Or if the controller was purchased later on, was it purchased from HP as an HP product or as a third party LSI controller?

What does it show in the BIOS when the server POSTs?
What does the device manager show?

Re: ML150 G3 SAS raid problem

ml150 either comes with and e200 or an embedded SATA raid controller, the second one is an HP LSI.

check windows disk management for the extra space, if not there you might need to enter the controller BIOS.
