ML150 G6 Reboot by Mgmt Processor in 60 Seconds

Hello,

i have some serious problem with our ML150 G6 (with rendundant power supplies).

The server reboots automaticly if one of the two power supplies get disconnected (simulated power loss).

As far as i can see, the reboot is triggered from the hpasm tool.

On The tty1 is shown:
CRITICAL: System Power Supply: General Failure (Power Supply 1)
A System Reboot has been requestet by the management processor in 60 seconds.

After reconnect the power to the second PSU the following message is shown:
NOTICE: System Power Supplies Not Redundant has been repaired
NOTICE: System Power Supply: General Failure (Power Supply 1) has been repaired
The system shutdown has been cancelled by the management processor

System Specs:
ML150 G6 with rendundant PSU
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1

Now the question: Where or How can i configure this triggered action? I don´t want the hp tool to reboot my server!

Regards,

Kai Oeste

Do you have the 750W power supplies and the RPS enablement kit in this server?

Re: ML150 G6 Reboot by Mgmt Processor in 60 Seconds

Verify that hpasm sees the right power supply hardware.

Check if you need an upgrade of hpasm.

Based on this URL, it should not shut down the server. (page 5, 1-1-1-3)
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00223285/c00223285.pdf

Also on page 6, check the paragraph "The ASR feature..." and see if the ASR has a setting on what to do on power loss.

Re: ML150 G6 Reboot by Mgmt Processor in 60 Seconds

Also check this URL, it is from 2003 but clearly states that it should not shutdown the server if a power supply fails. http://h50146.www5.hp.com/products/software/oe/linux/mainstream/support/doc/general/mgmt/asm/v700/man_hpasm.txt

Check the current hpasm man page on your server. You might see more details and options specifically about the ASR timer based reboot which is what you might be seing.

Re: ML150 G6 Reboot by Mgmt Processor in 60 Seconds

Hello again,

now i have checked the version of hpasm - it´s the latest one from hp.com!

I also have disabled the ASR Feature in the hpasmcli-tool --> the damn thing still reboots!

After that i have disabled the "watchdog"-feature in die BIOS... still rebooting...

Maybe this printout of the hpasmcli helps?

hpasmcli> show powersupply
Power supply #1
Present : Yes
Redundant: Yes
Condition: Ok
Hotplug : Not supported
Power supply #2
Present : Yes
Redundant: Yes
Condition: Ok
Hotplug : Not supported

Is it correct that "Hotplug: Not supported" is shown?

Also the hploh -p shows the following:

[root@linux-ksff exchange]# hplog -p
ID TYPE LOCATION STATUS REDUNDANT
1 Standard Pwr. Supply Bay Normal Yes
2 Standard Pwr. Supply Bay Normal Yes

i am very frustrated... has anyone another idea?

Re: ML150 G6 Reboot by Mgmt Processor in 60 Seconds

I should have asked in the begining but do you have the latest firware all around? Specifically the BIOS and iLO firmware?

Also try this. When the server is powered off, remove one power supply and start the server with the other power supply only. See if it starts up normally. Check around the status with asmcli and hplog and see if this might reveal something else.

Maybe ASM is just broken and HP needs to provide a fix.
