Are the hot-swap carriers required for HDD installation into the ML150G3?

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

Hello Adam,

All hot-plug disks come with the carriers or caddy, just slide the disk into the drive bay.

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

Oh, so they are suppose to be special drives.
They sent me regular SATA Seagate Barracuda drives in no special carrier. I ordered everything off CDW.ca and they said everything would be compatible, however they did send me unbuffered RAM when buffered is required so I should not have been suprised.
Now I have another 4 items to RMA
Thanks for the response

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

this is a link to what i ordered
http://www.cdw.ca/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=1017870
it says 6-hot-swap bays so i would assume it is the hot-swap model, but I may be wrong.

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

From the link the Pid is 399155-001 which is definitely a Hot Plug SAS Model.

To make full use of the features, you may want to opt for hot-plug disks.

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

I know that this is pretty new for HP, but have you found the correct part to purchase?
I looked at all the inks listed here and found some parts given, when you do searchs for the part numbers there are no results, even HP parts.
SATA Hot Plug Drives
HP 750GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD 432341-B21
HP 500GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD 395473-B21
HP 250GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD 349239-B21
HP 160GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD 349238-B21
HP 80GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD 349237-B21

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

Thanks for the part no.
Do the hot-swappable HDDs come with the carrier for proper installation into the hot-swap bays? Is it the carrier itself that makes the HDDs hot swappable or are the HDDs themselves special?

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

It would be the specialitiy of the controller and backplane that would contoller the "hotswap' functionallity. The actual hard drive would probably not be specific, but the carrier would.
My point was that I can not find the part numbers that HP lists for the actual hard drives anywhere. Did you?

Re: ML150G3 HDD Carrier

No, I just gave my supplier the information you gave me on the drives and they said that is what I am suppose to use. I ordered everything from CDW so when I gave them that information then they just talked to their HP representative and got them shipped out to me.
