ML150G3 Won't boot Past POST Screens
Hope someone can urgently help.
We shutdown our ML150G3 running SBS 2003 to replace the UPS Battery. SBS went through a normal orderly shutdown and powered off the server as per normal. We then disconnected and proceeded to replace the UPS Battery before reconnecting and powering up the server again.
However the server will not boot SBS. The sequence of events comes up as follows :-
1. Press Power Button -> Power light turns green and Hard Disk light comes on. Fan spins up fast and loud.
2. After a few seconds, fan slows down and is no longer noisy.
3. A couple of seconds or so later, the HP Proliant Splash Screen Appears
4. A few seconds later the splash screen clears to show the POST screen (showing amount of memory and CPUs installed)
5. Another couple of seconds later, the screen goes blank, power light stays green, hard disk light is off and we can still hear the fan running but the server remains like this forever. When this happens, we cannot even eject the CD-ROM tray. If we kept ejecting and retracting the CD-ROM tray from Step 1 to 4, as soon as it hits step 5, the CD tray stops dead in whatever position it is in and we cannot hit the button to eject or retract the tray.
Nothing has changed with the server at all other than changing the UPS battery and reconnecting it up.
Help ! The office is now dead in the water without a functional server at all ! Unfortunately it is after hours and we cannot ring HP's support line.
The server has 3GB of RAM, 2 x 160GB SATA drives and no additional cards in the slots.
Any idea what can prevent the server from going past POST ?

what happens if you bypass the UPS completely?

Re: ML150G3 Won't boot Past POST Screens
I've tried bypassing the UPS as well but no change - still won't boot past POST.
I've disconnected everything other than the Keyboard, Mouse, Video, Network and power cables.
And still no joy.

Re: ML150G3 Won't boot Past POST Screens
My suggestion would be to try to see if you can get the system to complete post. Try these things:
1) disconnect everything, hold the power button in to drain the power from the system, then reconnect only video and power
2) try resetting cmos via the button in the bottom right corner of the systemboard, to do this, disconnect the power first and just press the button.
3) reduce to a single memory module, swap with another module
4) disconnect the hard drives completely, also disconnect the power to the cdrom and any other devices in the system, just keep the power running to the systemboard only, also remove any pci cards you have installed.
If it was simply a hang or normal lockup you should still be able to eject the cdrom, something seems to be interrupting the power. If you try all this and the system still won't complete post, then there might be some issue with the systemboard or power supply.
Is this a single processor system?
