ML310 ATA Hard-Drives
We would like to buy some ML310 ATA servers, and put in 250GB Hard-drives. The spec's say that the server only supports 4x 160GB drives.
Can someone please confirm that 250 drives are ok in these servers?

Re: ML310 ATA Hard-Drives
Hi
Thanks for your answer.
I need to load the server with about 700GB and putting in 4x160GB won't be enough.
I was looking at putting 250GB Western Digital drives in, but wasn't sure if it would work, as the spec's don't mention support for drives greater than 160.
My knowledge would say that ATA drives of supported speed and type (ATA-100) would be ok, but wasn't sure if Compaq/HP had limited the bios in anyway to prevent larger drives being installed.
Brian

Re: ML310 ATA Hard-Drives
Hello,
I think it's not possible to use ATA hard drives greater then 137 GB with the internal ATA RAID Controller of the ML310.
The reason is that the controller uses only the 24-bit LBA mode and not the 48-bit mode.
I've tried to install a second controller (Promise TX2000) to connect a 250 GB hard disk. But the ML310 will not boot when the controller is installed.
I hope that hp brings a firmware update for the controller soon.

(Sorry for my bad English)
