ML310 G4 GPT / GUID Partitioning

Hi

I am attempting to upgrade my File server and have 4 x 1tb SATA hard drives.
I have them configured in a RAID 5 logical disk.
The server is a ML310 G4 with a HP P400 RAID Card.

I can partition 3 drives but cannot have anything larger then 1.9tb.
Example:
OS 100gb
OS Secondary 100mb (Required for server 2008)
Data 1.9tb (I cannot create this bigger then 1.9tb and cannot use the remaining 700gb)

I have looked into GPT / GUID partitioning but I don't know if the server supports it and how to enable it.

Anyone have any suggestions / advice?

Hi!
How did you partitioned the logical disk? I mean - which software have you used for this?

I used the RAID BIOS (ORCA) to configure the logical disk.

If i understand you correctly, you haven't tried to partition the LUN yet, isn't it? Afaik, Windows 2008 can try to create GPT during installation. Boot from windows 2008 DVD and try to format whole disk as single partition. Or, if it won't work, try to boot to recovery console and use diskpart.exe to create GPT. But i doubt if G4 can boot from it...
Anyway, at least, you can try :)

And one more thing about booting: according this document (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463524.aspx), "Windows only supports booting from a GPT disk on systems that contain Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boot firmware.".
I'm really not sure if G4 has UEFI support...

I dont believe the ML310 has EFI.
Both System BIOS and RAID Controller BIOS are latest firmware.

Thanks all for the responses.
