ML310 G5 + P410 512bbwc MSA options

Hi,

I'm interested in buying a MSA, but after a lot of searching im not quite sure what my options are here; maybe someone here can shed a light?
I have a ML310g5 with a 512MB bbwc P410 smart RAID array controller.
At the moment i have 4 disks installed in the server, connected as a raid array to the P410.
Can i connect (and which ones) a MSA to that P410? Do i have to buy the expension card or do i need a seperate controller for this?
If possible i would like to buy and connect the MSA30, since the rest is a bit too expensive ;P

Thanks in advance!
Sander

Re: ML310 G5 + P410 512bbwc MSA options

The P410 is for internal drives only. It does not have any external connectors.

You need to buy a P411, which is identical to the P410 but it has external connectors instead of internal ones.

The MSA30 will NOT work. It has U320 SCSI drives and host interfaces. The P410/P411 use SAS interfaces and SAS and SATA drives.

Officially the MSA60 is th smallest external enclosure that is supported.

Thanks for your answer!
instead of a p411, can i also use a p410 + expension card (which does have external interface, i believe?)

If you are thinking of the SAS expander card, no it does not have external interfaces.

The external connector that you see is for tape drive support.

i see.
Well, in that case it's going to be way too expensive, i think im going to look for another sollution, maybe another readynas.

Thanks anyway!
