ML310 G5 hangs BSOD on LSI_SAS.SYS

I've used true image universal restore on an older 2003 server image and used the CD-ROM SATA port to boot it up. Installed all drivers and the HP service pack for all drivers and patches without errors. All drivers were installed successfully, no unknown drivers in device manager present.
I've then put the drive in its bay and booted the system. Windows boots and displays the startup messages, but before the ctrl+alt+del prompt it BSODs with the error:
STOP 0x000000D1 (0x03F0000 0x00000007 etc)

Is there a fix? I've read in a pdf from hp for server 2008 that this may occur during an upgrade from 2003 to 2008 and it recommends to delete the driver file. I'm not sure this is the correct way to go. Do you have any idea how to resolve this?

Kind regards
