ML310 G5p - RAID1 no drives were found W2K8

Hello Guys,

New ML330 G5p
New OS install but not seeing drives after RAID setup and driver install

Steps Taken:

1) Created RAID in BIOS
----------------------
RAID1 in BIOS, 2x 500Gb drives
all seems to be fine in BIOS

HP Embedded SATA RAID controller
BIOS V5.0-0 B2235

controller #00: ICH9R SATA RAID

Array #0 - RAID-1 465.62GB OPTIMAL

1 Logical Device Found

The proceeded to Booting from WINDOWS DVD

but drives not found !

---------------------
2) SMART START 8.25 - did not get me far
actually did this first

following error "the primary controller configured in your system is not supported by this version of smartstart "

INFO SUMMARY
-----------------
ROM W08 1/22/2009

RAM 3072

Boot COntroller: Intel 82801 GR SATA RAID Controller

ACU - array configuration utility
sees another available device

Smart Array B110i SATA RAID in Embedded SLOT

I selected that and build the RAID via ACU
what seemed like I did it the second time ?
all succesful ...

SMART ARRAY A created

WINDOWS 2008 Foundation 64bit install
---

no Intel drivers on HP site for
Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller

Downloaded
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager and extracted driver

found it on Intel site, windows does detect it when loading the driver as hardware compatible
goes through install only to come back

NO DRIVES DETECTED ...

On Client Site, slept here already 1 night !
Any ideas appreciated !

None of the HP drivers are working - for the embeded SATA RAID controller
Windows does not recognise them as compatible

also tried :
HP Proliant Smart Array Embedded SATA RAID Controller Driver for Windows 20032008 x64 Editions - was said should be compatible with
2008
Someone suggested to check that SATA is IDE switched on in BIOS ..can not locate that option

Your help much appreciated!

Re: ML310 G5p - RAID1 no drives were found W2K8

hi there. I am having the same exact issue. Have tried for 3 days. I have managed to install the os with no sata raid setup in bios and erased all settings using the smartstart.

I have the ml310 g5p.
Windows 2008 Foundation R1 x64

Boot Controller: Intel 82801 GR SATA RAID Controller in the bios.

Smart Array B110i SATA RAID in Embedded in the HP ACU.
So right now I have windows loaded, but I am seeing two drives, as the raid is not setup. I need this, I wanted this, I paid for this.
I also have been installing servers and raid for 15 years. What do I need to do?
Thanks.

You need to locate and download SmartStart 8.3 CDROM, it has the correct drivers for that controller.

There is no other way I have found that works.

Re: ML310 G5p - RAID1 no drives were found W2K8

Actually today I ran into this same situation on now the 2nd ML310 G5P server our company has installed for a customer and what I have is to go to HP's site and go to the Standard Windows 2008 64-bit section and get the driver.

You will know it is the correct driver if it comes up as an Adaptec SATA Raid driver when you load up the drivers.

Adaptec is leasing the rights to Intel right now for this controller, hence the discrepency in HP vs. Intel vs. Adaptec.

Hopefully this helps if you haven't gotten it figured out yet.
