ML310e Gen8 Server - Updates Hang
Hey guys
Need help troubleshooting this odd problem.
Everytime I restart the machine, it hangs on an update for up to 16 hours. After every restart it hangs on the same updates at least over night. So I thought a format and fresh install might fix things. I used the install updates option during the install. Everything seemed OK until I removed server roles, a restart was required and now the server has hung on updates again. It has been on stage 3 of 3 0% for the last 5 hours. And can't find much on the internet.
In general the server is very slugish.
I have installed the latest HP service pack for this machine.
ML310e Gen8 Server
Windows Small Business Server 2008 Standard
Quad Core Xeon Processor 3.1Ghz
4GB RAM
Single Drive (no RAID)
HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i RAID Controler (not used)
HP Smart Array P222 with 1 Logical Drive

Re: ML310e Gen8 Server - Updates Hang
Hi, so the problem occurs after you remove some server roles?
Remove them one by one to identify which one you shouldn't seems like a good idea.

Re: ML310e Gen8 Server - Updates Hang
No I dont think it was the server roles that caused it, cause that was the first time I have removed those roles (terminal services & Network Policy and Access Services) and not the first time the update hang has occured.

OK. If you're suspecting a hardware problem you could boot the server on HP's SmartStart DVD and run some diagnostics.

I can't find the ML310e Gen8 listed next to the Windows 2008 SBS Standard - can you?
Looks to me like 2008 SBS Std not supported on the ML310e Gen8.
If you click on the other tabs you'll see a note saying that ML310e Gen8 for 2008 and R2 needs SP1.

Re: ML310e Gen8 Server - Updates Hang
My suppliers said to use the 2008 STD drivers for the SBS Server, would this not work?
