ML330 G3 HD upgrade
Greetings all.. I have a ML330 G3 with 4 80GB HDs in two RAID1 arrays. The first array being for the OS, and the second for general file storage. I'd like to replace the second array with two 160GB drives as the 80s are almost full. Here is what I plan to do, please let me know if this is a bad idea.
1. Power down the server.
2. Remove one 80GB drive from second array.
3. Install one 160GB drive in second array.
3. Power on the server and let the array rebuild.
4. Power down the server.
5. Remove the remaining 80GB drive from second array.
6. Install second 160GB drive in second array.
7. Power on the server and let the array rebuild.
8. Expand the existing data partition with 3rd party partion tool.
9. Done..

Re: ML330 G3 HD upgrade
Bad idea. The logical drive will remain 80GB and you could not expand it. Don't forget : this is a HARDWARE system array. Array controller can modify the array configuration only. The best thing to do is :
1. backup data
2. delete array and remove HDDs
3. install new HDDs and recreate a new array
4. restore data
regards,
kesaco

Re: ML330 G3 HD upgrade
Well, bummer.. I forgot about the whole logical drive issue. I was just hoping to avoid the Backup/Restore Monster. Thanks for the advice, and prompt response.
