ML330 G3 installing another processor

We are trying to install another processor into the server. It is an Intel Xeon 2.4Ghz processor. The problem that we have is that the fan 3 pin connector does not fit into the 4 pins on the motherboard. I saw on the Intel site that you should just use the pins 1,2,3 and leave out pin four. We tried that but it did not power on. The combination that we did try was to just use the pins 1 and 2 on the motherboard and we got it to work when it was booting but it did not stay on. What is the problem here? The intel fan that we recieved has interesting colored fan wires having a black, yellow and green in that order. The Black and yellow colored wires were plugged into the motherboard and it turned on but the fan shut off after 5 seconds from booting.

Also another problem that we had was when we got the processor in, the server started to beep and the screen did not turn on. What does this mean?

Also where can we order another fan for the primary processor spot, some things happened and the fan needed some "modification" so a new one is in order.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Richard:

Did you order the processor kit from HP or did you get the processor and fan from a third party?

If you purchased Original Kit for server Part number should be 323139-B21
For Heatsink with fan 325035-001
Original Fan should fit correctly

The processor kit was from a third party.

Re: ML330 G3 installing another processor

The only part that needs replacing is the fan it self. Is there any possible way to just order the fan to cut down on costs possibly through an outside vendor or will I need to order the whole set. The link that is above shows a kit for a P4 processor will this fit the Xeon processor? Sorry not too tech savvy over here.

Thanks again for all the rapid help.

Richard,

The HP spare part number for the correct heatsink/fan assembly is 325035-001, available at HP partsurfer for $66.00.

Enter your location and part 325035-001 at the following link.
