ML330 - Need to boot to SCSI but with IDE drive(s) attached
I recently received a Compaq ProLiant ML330 server with 2 SCSI drives attached to the Compaq integrated SCSI adapter.
In the BIOS under Storage > Hard Drive Controller Order it shows:
Slot3 Compaq Wide/Ultra2 SCSI controller- first
System embedded IDE controller- second
Also it wont even allow me to swap the order not that I want to.
I wiped the SCSI drives, installed XP Pro and all was ok. Now I have tried in vain to add 1 or 2 IDE drives to the primary IDE controller and placed the CD on the secondary. It seems to want to boot to the IDE drive on the Pri Master first.
I have read some things that state the IDE will most certainly try and boot first. I am trying to get it to boot up and see Windows on the SCSI drives instead.
Is tere a way that I can boot the system, even to the IDE but then load and operate XP Pro on the SCSI drives??
I have heard of making only Extended partitions on the IDE drives with no primary but I do not have any util to do this. Also can I install xp on the ide, then edit the boot.ini or something to point to the SCSI for the OS, and then wipe the windows install from the IDE??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Re: ML330 - Need to boot to SCSI but with IDE drive(s) attached
Check the ROM configuration utility at boot. Enter in there and modify the boot sequence, removing ide channels from boot, so those will be NOT boot-enabled.
Hope this helps.
Diego.

Re: ML330 - Need to boot to SCSI but with IDE drive(s) attached
Still unable to get into the SCSI BIOS on this Compaq Proliant ML330. It seems I have tried all of the function keys but still no luck.
And what is the "Rom Configuration Utility"? Is this the SCSI BIOS?
In the BIOS for the system the boot order lists floppy cd and hard disk C: but no way to disable the hard disk or change to scsi.
