ML350 G3 CPU Upgrade

We have a ML350 G3 with a single Xeon 2.2Ghz. We want to upgrade it to 3.06Ghz.

Question is, can we use a CPU from another HP server? We have DL360 CPU's part number 322472-B21.

Just wondering if these would work (before we stuff around with pulling the servers out of the rack and wasting our time)?

This part number has specific radiator for 1U chassis only, hence this description in QuickSpec:
Intel Xeon 3.06GHz/533MHz-512KB Processor Option Kit
NOTE: This processor option kit (PN 322472-B21) supports the ProLiant DL360 G3 only.

On the top of that you have another, bigger problem - your box has 400MHz frontside bus, while 3.06GHz Xeon features 533MHz FSB.

So the bottom line is - no, it won't work.

The 2.2 is a 400Mhz but the motherboard does support 533 FSB.

Can I take the heatsink/fans off the 2.2's and put them on the 3.06's?

You can experimet with heatsink, but why do you think your m/b supports 533MHz FSB? In QuickSpec it is clearly stated - EITHER 400MHz OR 533MHz FSb, not both

Ok I'll have to find the manual for the system if it's around, but last time I checked when things are stated like that it means it can take either 400 or 533, obviously you can't mix a 400 CPU with a 533 CPU...

Anyway you're the HP expert so I'll take your word for it! I just kind of inherited these systems when the other guy left!
