ML350-G3 + SmartArray 641 - not booting

I have an ML350-G3 with a Smart Array 641 and 4-GB Ram ( 4x1GB ) installed.

I wanted to upgrade to 8-GB RAM ( 4x2 original HP memory ).

with 4x2GB installed the server doesn't start at all - inernal health error.

with 2x2GB the system doesn't boot from the 641.

If I take out the 641 the systems works perfect with any memory-configuration.

Anyone here with hints for me whats wrong.

regards

Re: ML350-G3 + SmartArray 641 - not booting

I would perform a BIOS update on the system board and Firmware update on the Controller to see if issue resolves.

We can clear the NVRAM and check if that resolves the issue.

Please note that SA-641/642 is not supported in 5 volt PCI slots.

I work for HPE.

Place the larger sticks in the lowest banks. Make sure you put them together in the correct banks. Once you bring up the server, go into the cmos and save to register the new ram. Verify all the sticks are same speed and ECC. What are the part numbers.

erase nvram in bios, you may have to pull all other card in pci slots then add them again later
