ML350 G3 - Switch to Raid System ?
Is this possible ? - What i want to do is the following:
i have one ml 350 g3 no raid controller an one scsi drive. i want to switch this system to a raid 1 system (win 2000). my idea is:
add a smart array controller to the system - boot the server - add the drivers for the smart array controller.
Shut down the system - make a ghost image to a network share.
add two new drives to the system and remove the old one. configure the raid level 1 direct on the controller.
restore the ghost image to the new disk set.
do you think this will work ?
best regards
Manuel

I think it will work (make sure you have good backup, of course you can also use your old drive in case of something go bad).

Re: ML350 G3 - Switch to Raid System ?
This worked for me!
Here ist what i have done:
1) Backup my existing server
2) Image my Server to network share (ghost)
3) add smart array controller (642)
4) boot the server and add the array controler drivers. install acu
5) shut down
6) image the server again to share (additional image)
7) remove old disk - cable to array controller - add 2 new drives
8) configure raid 1 on the controller (F8)
9) change boot controller
10) shut down
11) restore ghost image from share to the new raid system
12) boot again - ALL DONE
No Problems, No Errors.. works well :-)
best regards

Re: ML350 G3 - Switch to Raid System ?
I added a new smart array 641 controller in my ML 570 G3, but I cannot ghost any image, Ghost do not recognize the array. In windows 2003 it's OK, the array is recognized and works well. But when I boot the server from network with a network boot image from ghost softwares it's not possible to access the array.
Any idea ?
Thanks

Re: ML350 G3 - Switch to Raid System ?
Ghost do not know the correct raid driver. Use tools like part pe and add the correct driver. i have done this many times with all kind of ml servers. link to part pe:
