We have a ML350 G3 server with 2 disks of 146 GB having RAID (1+0). We like to add two more disks and like to create a new raid (1+0) (by keeping the existing RAID) and then a new drive (OS Windows 2003). We cant modify/change our existing RAID as well as drives.
Please share the impact, estimated time and mainly the precautions of this activity as the server is a business critical server.

Re: ML350 G3 new raid creation
Plugging in disks and setting up the new RAID can be done with the server running.
(If you have a version of the 'Array Configuration Utility' - ACU, installed)
At least, I think Win2003 needs a reboot.
(Never had to do this job on 2003. We mostly skipped that version in my organisation.)

The Smart Array Controller card is 641 controller card, ACU version is 7.40.8.0.

SolutionAdd disks physically.
Create new Array / Logical drive using ACU.
Open device manager, Rescan for changes (may not need so).
Run windows disk manager, it will find new disk.
A good backup and disaster recovery plan, is always a goos precaurtion.
