ML350 G4 fails to start (LEDs)

Thanks to everyone who reads this.

I just got my hands on a Proliant ML350 G4 (the one with 4 DIMM slots). It had two processors installed *BUT* PPM 2 is missing. Visually, that is the only thing that is out of order. I removed the second CPU.

When I apply power, the fans go to full speed, the internal health LED on the front panel goes RED, and the following LEDs on the motherboard are lit: Processor 1, PPM 1, and Processor 2.

There is no memory and no HDDs in the system. The LED on the PSU is GREEN.

Any ideas? Is the motherboard shot?

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: ML350 G4 fails to start (LEDs)

I tried unplugging everything (IDE, FDD, SCSI backplane, nothing in the PCI slots, etc.) except for one CPU, but no change.

Another piece of relevant information: the CPUs are 3.06GHz, 512KB cache, 533 MT/s FSB but the quickspecs say "one of the following depending on model:

Intel Xeon Processor 3.4 GHz/800-1MB L2
Intel Xeon Processor 3.2 GHz/800-1MB L2
Intel Xeon Processor 3.0 GHz/800-1MB L2

Also, the heatsink/fan assembly looks different than pictures in the manual.

So, it's obvious that it's not going to work until I get a proper CPU!

Thanks for putting up with this.

Nathan
