Re: ML350 G4 will not boot, health light and CPU1 ERR, VRM1 FAILURE
Yes. But you still have to beware of the microcodes.
Just like in all other things CPU's also get fixes. Then they get a new stepping.
=> new micro code
Wich mean the BIOS need new micro codes.
=> BIOS upgrade.
Ei. You buy a server with 1.2 GHz CPU 1 MB cache etc. step b.
2 years later you buy an addtional CPU, exactly same specs, and original.
Only the new is a step d.
You havn't upgraded the BIOS since you installed the server, and it has been running without any problems.
You add new cpu, and it now say unsupportet device.
You need to upgrade BIOS.
Then add the new CPU.
In your case, things has gone wrong.
It could be bad system I/O bd, that just failed now.
Or mayby you have been trapped in all of it at the same time.
Keep your head up, keep trying, and you will get it home.

Re: ML350 G4 will not boot, health light and CPU1 ERR, VRM1 FAILURE
Turns out it was an incompatible DVD drive. I forgot that night that I was going to put on WS2008 R2... and it was on DVD so I grabbed a spare Sony DVD IDE drive I had and plugged it up.
When I unplugged the DVD drive the system started right up.
I've never seen an IDE drive cause system diagnostics to flag the motherboard, processors and VRMs as being bad. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

That's new one, for the spooky list.
I'm happy to learn that you got fixed.
Cheers
