ML350 G4p2 + Smart Array 641/642 legacy compat?
Hello,
I have a Smart Array 64x versus 532 drive array compatibility question.
I posted a few days ago about a ML350 G2 that had the power problems. Based on the cost vectors we decided to replace it with a ML350 G4p2. But I've come to problem point and need some experience guidance.
The old system had a two drive mirror on a Smart Array 532 controller. Of course the 532 is not compatible with the ML350 G4p2 series. The distributor didn't catch that fact, nor did I until we tried to boot the new system today. So now we need to make a quick decision so I can order the right part tonight; or we'll be down for the long holiday.
Note: The harddrives from the G2 do spin up and are recognized as harddrives by the onboard Ultra 320
So here are my questions:
1) If I order a SA-641 or SA-642 will it recognize the mirror set of harddrive that was created on the 532?
2) Does the onboard Ultra320 Scsi have hardware raid abilities (sorry due to timelines I've only skimmed the manual) And is it sufficient in capabilities that it would be a better investment to rebuilt the hardware level mirror on that controller.

1) Yes, SmartArray 64x will recognize your mirror set from SmartArray 532
2) No. You cannot create hardware RAID with onboard Ultra320 SCSI.
