ML350 G5 DISK ERROR

I have a ML350 G2 server with 2 x 72Gb SAS drives. I am receiving an alert to replace the first drive of the mirror set. Can i replace the drive online? What procedure do i follow?

Re: ML350 G5 DISK ERROR

hi,

the server should have HW raid installed, and the disk should be hot-swapable. So you could replace the failed drive online.

Re: ML350 G5 DISK ERROR

Hi Frederick,
Yes faulty drive of working Mirror set can be replaced online.
You can plug out the faulty hard drive and install the new hard drive.

Generally its a no pain process but backup your data for safety.
You can use following procedure if you want to:
1. Take backup and verify whether its working or not.
2. Capture ADU (Array Diagnostics utility) report of the current status.
3. Run Online Insight Diagnostics, Select Storage and run test to confirm the status of hard drive and RAID.
4. Click on the identify button in the Insight Diagnostics for faulty hard disk
5. Replace the faulty hard drive with new one
6. Check rebuilding status in ACU (Array configuration utility)
7. Wait for the rebuilding to complete then capture the ADU Report
8. Verify the status of storage again through Online Insight Diagnostics for confirmation

Re: ML350 G5 DISK ERROR

Hello, thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, my mirror system is on Hardware Raid and the faulty disk is Disk1 on Bay 1 of the array. Being it the first disk of the mirror set, is it still ok just to hot swap with a new disk?
Thanks in advance.

Re: ML350 G5 DISK ERROR

Yes Absolutely,
Being the first or 2nd disk does not make any difference.
The individual hard drives are hidden from Operating system, so don't worry about FAT table.
