ML350 G5 PCI-E x4/x8 can it plug a x1 PCI-E Card?
Hi all,
My company using HP ML350 G5 server, it had a build-in NC373i multifunctional NIC ..
But since some reason, we need using Symantec BESR, it not support it ...
So we want to buy a new NIC, Now finded the Intel PRO 1000 Series, but it is using PCI-E x1 interface where the HP ML350 G5 is x4/x8 interface....
I am wonder do the x4/x8 port can plug-in a x1 card no problems? Or I need buy the x4/x8 interface PCI-E Card only (It is very expensive on x4 interface)
Thank you.

Re: ML350 G5 PCI-E x4/x8 can it plug a x1 PCI-E Card?
Hi,
physically the x1 PCIe can be plugged in x4 slot.
The problem is that noone can guarantee that this NIC will work with the ML350 g5.
Can be that there are IRQ or other conflicts.
The supported and tested NIcs in this server are :
HP NC110T PCI Express Gigabit Server Adapter
NOTE: Does not support Windows 2000.
434905-B21
HP NC360T PCI Express Dual Port Gigabit Server Adapter 412648-B21
HP NC364T PCI Express Quad Port Gigabit Server Adapter 435508-B21
NOTE: Does not support Windows 2000.
HP NC373F PCI Express Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter 394793-B21
HP NC373T PCI Express Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter 394791-B21
HP NC380T PCI Express Dual Port 394795-B21 Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter
HP NC510F PCIe 10 Gigabit Server Adapter
NOTE: A minimum of 1 gigabyte (1 GB) of server memory is required per each NC510F adapter. 414126-B21
HP NC510C PCIe 10 Gigabit Server Adapter
NOTE: A minimum of 1 gigabyte (1 GB) of server memory is required per each NC510C adapter. 414129-B21
HP NC7170 PCI-X Dual Port 1000T Gigabit Server Adapter 313881-B21
HP NC7771 PCI-X 1000T Gigabit Server Adapter

If someone tested the NIC in this server can give you more info...
