ML350 G5 - many repeated log from Cissesrv and Smart Array P400 issue

Hi everyone!

Our server ML370_G5 has the following spec.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, x64
HP Smart Array P400 (firmware: 7.24)

Fault Tolerance RAID 5
Bay1: HP SAS 146GB DG146BAAJB  (firmware: HPD9) (Logical Drive 1)
Bay2: HP SAS 146GB DG146BB976  (firmware: HPDC) (Logical Drive 1)
Bay3: HP SAS 146GB DG146BB976  (firmware: HPDC) (Logical Drive 1)
Bay4: HP SAS 146GB DG146BB976  (firmware: HPDC) (Logical Drive 1)
Bay5: HP SAS 146GB DG146BB976  (firmware: HPDC) (Spare)

I replaced  failed drive on Bay 1 with news SAS HDD recently and then it was rebuild successfully. But I meet the problems below.

============================================================
Array Configuration Utility (version: 8.70.9)
From this utility: goto
1. Smart Array P400 > More Information (Checked that)
   Array Accelerator:
   Cache Status: OK
   Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for more information.
2. logical drive > More Information (Checked that)
    Parity Initialization Status: Initialization Failed
3. But all status from this utility are OK without any error.

From Windows Event system log:

Appears many repeated Information log every 30 sec for 2 days and it will appear again on other days.
Source: Cissesrv
Event ID: 24677
Description:
Surface analysis has repaired an inconsistent stripe on logical drive 1 connected to array controller P400 located in server slot 1.

This repair was conducted by updating the parity data to match the data drive contents.
============================================================

I've updated firmware for Smart Array P400 and latest version of sofwares except SAS HDD's firmware.
If I update SAS HDD's firmware, is there any risk to make hdd's data loss or safe to upgrade?

For the above problem, how should I solve it? Please kindly advise.

Re: ML350 G5 - many repeated log from Cissesrv and Smart Array P400 issue

Hi,

There could be n number of reasons for these errors. It could be in a specific disk error recovery process that these are seen due a firmware issue, driver recovery, etc...

Firmware is up to date.

Update the storage controller driver if not updated already

Run ADU on affected system and post the results.

Cissesrv event log disappeared after reboot that time.  Just did this.
