ML350 G6 VMWare ESXi Update Procedure

Currently have a stand alone ML350 G6 server with VMware ESXi 4.1.0 build 260247 installed and booting from internal HP 4GB SD card and using workstation Hypervisor vSphere Client to manage the server.

Have also downloaded and installed vSphere CLI to the workstation.

Want to upgrade ESXi 4.1.0 to 4.1U2 and just want to confirm the correct procedure.

Is it just a case of downloading the HP ESXi 4.1 U2 offline bundle for VMware from the HP Downloads Section, placing the host into maintenance mode, using vSphere CLI to install the bundle and then rebooting?

Or are there other downloads or steps that need to be done as well?

Hello,

there are many ways to patch standalone ESXi server. But firts of all, please keep in mind HP offline bundle is not a patch for ESXi, it just ads some HP drivers, tools and management to HP server runing ESXi.

To upgrade ESXi to later minor upgrade - like to ESXi 4.1 u3 from August 2012 - download iso from https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere/4_1 ,

then you can boot this iso and it will upgrade your installation to update 3.
