ML350 RAID configuration

Have ordered a ML350 including 2 36Gb drives and
3 146Gb drives.

Would like to set the 36Gb drivesin a RAID for the OS. and the 146 in RAID for data.

Am looking for the best practice configuration and setup process.

Re: ML350 RAID configuration

Hi,
The best way to configure the drives is to use the SmartStart CD that ships with the server.
Assuming that you have ordered the current G5 model, with integrated Smart Array E200i raid controller, use the Array Configuration Utility to create the Raid sets. You will need to order the additional 128Mb cache module to get Raid 5 capabilities. Create a Raid 1+0 raid set with the 2 x 36Gb disks, and Raid 5 with the 146 Gb disks.

Once the Raid sets are created, you will need to create the logical volume within each of these. The wizard for doing this is very useful. This will give you an OS raid set of 36Gb, and a data raid set of 292Gb.

Thanks,

David
