ML350 g4 (not g4p) processor upgrade

Hi all,
Google didn't answer these questions for me.
I want to add another processor to a single processor setup. I found it incredibly difficult to find a matched pair, so I'm considering buying a matched pair of socket 604 xeons off e-bay. Is there any reason two 3.6ghz xeons wouldn't work? It's not officially supported by HP, but the Intel chipset says that it supports them? Also, would there be a problem if I were to get two 3.4ghz chips that don't have the same steppings as the ones originally sold with the computers?
Thanks for your help.

hi

well at least in the quickspecs 3.6 are not listed (I see specs have not been update sice 2006)

you see
Intel Xeon 3.4 GHz-1MB Processor Option Kit 370513-B21
Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz-1MB Processor Option Kit
358345-B21
Intel Xeon 3.0 GHz-1MB Processor Option Kit
358344-B21

so it would be under you own risk to test those

and usually for stepping issue the resolution is update system rom and/or also use the proc with lower stepping in slot 1

Didn't your momma teach you to say thanks!

The current processors in there actually isn't any of those. It's an Irwindale processor with the 2megs of cache.
Well, that give me hope that a new processor will work. I also found a bios update that says it supports newer processors...unfortunately, it doesn't give specifics.
