ML350G6 CPU upgrades

HI all,

I've got an ML350G6 configured with an E5504 CPU, which was bought a couple years ago, running as a generic Linux server. As the box starts to show its age, I'm thinking about a CPU upgrade. Having read a couple forums (including this one), it seems that some mainboards support 55xx CPUs only, some support 55xx/56xx.

"System board Part# 511775-001 for systems using Intel 5500 series processors
System board Part# 606019-001 for systems using Intel 5500 and 5600 series processors"

Is it possible to tell from the SKU retrieved via dmidecode that which board does it have? The only partnumber I was able to retrieve is 470065-114.

Thanks,

Zoltan H

Re: ML350G6 CPU upgrades

Hi,

Its a always recommended to open up the server and check the system board part number from the label on them.

What if your server had 511775-001 and later it was replaced to 606019-001.

BTW your server has 511775-001 according to http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=470065-114

Thank You!

Re: ML350G6 CPU upgrades

Hi,

Agree on opening up the server. I was mostly interested in that if the mainboard partnumber could be retrieved via dmidecode, or if there is a part list site - which you kindly pointed me, the partsurfer site is great.

Given that I'm the first owner of the box, I take it that the original 511775-001 is in it, and plan for a 55xx upgrade.

Thanks for help!
