ML350e G8 single to dual processor

I have a single processor ML350e G8 with the 460W basic power supply and 2 fans. I recently acquired a second processor and after installing it the server detected that fan 4 was not present and shut down immediately. In looking at the quickspecs it reads that:

Two (2) Non-hot plug, non-redundant fans ship standard (support up to 4 fans).

NOTE: Redundant Enablement Kit (part # 664046-B21) is required when redundant fans are needed.

So my question. Can i just install 1 or 2 spare fans part # 685043-001or do I actually have to order the Redundant Enablement Kit?

What is actually in the Redundant Enablement Kit?

Thanks in advance.

Re: ML350e G8 single to dual processor

This server can supports 4 fans.
For Single Processor fan2 & fan3 is required, whereas for two processor fan2, fan3 and fan4 is required. Fan 1 is considered redundant and is recommended but not required. i.e. if you want redundancy you can install a fan in slot one.

else for two processor configuration you need tohave 3 fans in slot 2,3 &4.

Hope this information helps.
