Looking at the specs for an ML350p G8 it lists the PCIe slots with a note for each one that says "For Processor 1" or "For Processor 2".
Can anyone explain what that means. For instance, if I install an adapter in a slot "For Processor 1" does that mean it somehow can't be used by Processor 2?
TIA

Re: ML350p G8 PCIe question
Hi, going by the Quickspecs page for this model and this review here...
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/servers/377701/hp-proliant-ml350p-gen8
It looks like slots 5 to 9 are only useable if you have the second CPU installed.
Other wise you only get slots 1 to 4.

SolutionWith the new CPU design from Intel, the I/O bus has been moved to the CPU die (I'm trying to find some information sowhere).
Some pci slots is attached to CPU 1, some to CPU 2. And so on, if you got more CPU's.
For the PCI slots for CPU 2 to be used, you must install CPU 2.
CPU's can use the other CPU(s) PCI slots, when the other cpu is installed.
Just like AMD has been doing with the memory bus for aboute 10 years.
These are the latest CPUs, and they are being used in Gen 8.
Since this is the CPU desing, you will see that from all vendors.
