ML370 G2/G3 support IDE disks!

Contrary to Compaq's docs, the ML370 G2 and G3 _do_ support IDE disks.
We have successfully placed 170 GB IDE disks in both systems. BIOS recognizes the disks and Win2000 can successfully handle them - seeing full disk size only when adding registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/system/current control set/services/atapi/EnableBigLBA (dword=1).
BIOS versions: 08/17=2 for G2, 06/19/03 for G3.

pudellek,

Great stuff! So you are hanging the disk off of the onboard IDE controller? Channel 2? Or slaved off the CD? Give us more on you actual setup

Re: ML370 G2/G3 support IDE disks!

I have not done it myself, but a collegue has simply added the IDE disk to the CDRom's cable 2nd connector, installing the drive in the slot underneath.
I can have a look at the issue the next days.

Re: ML370 G2/G3 support IDE disks!

I have done this on the ML350G2 about a year ago. I can't remember specifics, but knowing me, I would have added it to the secondary controller with it's own 80 pin cable.

It was a WDJB1200 120Gb running on Small Business Server 2000. I did not tweak any registry settings, but the full drive is available and holding backup images.
