ML370 G2- Win2K - Rebooting on its own !

Hi,

I have 5 Compaq ML370 G2 Servers ( 1.3GHz )running Windows 2000 Server that are rebooting on their own. This can happen once every 2 weeks or sometimes twice a week.

The Windows 2000 Server installations are FULLY patched, and the Servers themsleves are Fully up to date with all the latest BIOS codes and drivers and CPQ Support Packs. 7.00a.
They are also Virus free.

The HP System Support page just reports a "ASR" in the Integrated Management Logs ", but no reason for the reboot. The Windows Event Viewer also gives no clues.

These are core system critical servers so if they go down during the day its not good !!.

If anyone has any ideas please put them forward as i need to get to the bottom of this one fast.

Re: ML370 G2- Win2K - Rebooting on its own !

ASR could occur due to any of these:
+ power supply failure
+ UPS malfunctioning
+ system temperature over the threshold
+ fan failure
+ hardware/system lock up etc

Could you check that the system temperature is under acceptable limits, power supplied to the server is conditioned and not diry i.e. no abnormal fluctuations or dity power? Are there any hot spots in the machine room?

Are you sure you have the latest PSP?

Hope this helps and don't forget to assign points:)

Hi,

first option would be to update the BIOS of the same server. Where as ASR is concerned. It's not recomened to disable it but for a hile to check why it is happening we need to disable it so error log will be reported under iml befor asr is activated.

Prashant, say what? Unitelligable. He also says this is an occurance to all 5 ML370's he has.
I would agree that it is power related, since we would guess that isone of the few things they have in common.

Paul,

One thing you did nto mention was if all of these servers are on the same KVM. There is a problem with some older HP KVMs which can cause the ASR. I can't find the relvant email now but I'll post back when I can find it.

can you tell us if there is a specific time when ASR takes place? ( see in iml, and check wether the time for ASR is specific for a server/all servers)

Paul, and/or Martin,

i was just wondering if you managed to get a solution for your problem. I am experiencing the same kind of issues with two servers

Yes the problem now appears to be solved.
All my ML370's are now running on the new ML370 Service Pack that was realeased a few months ago.
