ML370 G2 processor issue

Hello fellow hardware buffs, I have an issue with a failed light on a processor. I took it out and tried running just one and it reboots after a while.
I decided to get 2 new processors (exact match) and to new VRMs that match too. The problem now is that I am getting the yellow fail lights on the board for each processor and it won't start. I re checked the specs, and reset everything, but it won't start. Am I missing something?
I appreciate the help!

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

Try leaving the old VRM for CPU 1, power off the server AND detach power chords.

Then retry.

I also tried the old processor and I still have a red light on the power button and yellow fail lights on the board by the processors. No boot, no post.

What does ILO say?

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

If it doesn't start, how can I get to it? The server just sits with yellow lights.

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

did you configure ILO before?
ILO is accessible even if server is down. It has its own processor etc...

If you didn't configure it, you can try attaching a network cable with DHCP server and search for the lease.

Then connect to it using a browser from a PC.

Browse the various tabs that can report system status...

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

OK, after making a few changes, the sever fired up fine with no errors. I logged into windows and ran the management software. Everything looked good, motherboard, processors, memory. Great!
I did a few updates and started running programs and it was fine. The management software showed 2 processors, but I only see one running in the task mgr. The server was up for 45 minutes and then suddenly went into a mild shut off, still running, but no OS and a red light on the front notifying me of an internal issue. Now I have a yellow light only on processor one. Processor two is dark and server is still running?.
Anyone have an idea in this scenario?

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

processor 1 is fault, put CPU 2 in slot 1 and vice versa and then fire up the server.

you should receive notification of a faulty processor in slot 2.

if it doesn't power up, remove the processor that will be in slot 2.

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

According to HP only 3 type CPU's are supported in ML370G2.
All 3 CPU's use same PPM.

When using 2 CPU's both must be the same frequency. You can see it by the POST.

P/N are:
1.13-GHz Intel Pentium III Processor with heatsink
239324-001 (also: # 228524-001)

1.26-GHz Intel Pentium III Processor with heatsink
230991-001 (also: # 228496-001 )

1.40-GHz Intel Pentium III Processor with heatsink
259594-001

PPM: # 228506-001

Are those parts installed ??
Are the heatsinks installed properly onto the CPU (with adequate thermal paste) ??

Re: ML370 G2 processor issue

Pzel, I have 2 new
1.13-GHz Intel Pentium III Processor with heatsink PN:239324-001. I also have 2 new VRM with these. Here's what's going on today.

I fired it up and now I'm getting nothing again. I have amber lights by both processors and it won't start. When it was up yesterday for 45 minutes, I ran the server software and the motherboard checked out fine. Then all of a sudden, one processor will amber light and it will shut off the OS.
I'm leaning toward a failing MB, unless someone has another idea.
This is not making my week.
Thanks for the help guys.
