ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
I have several (three) ML370 G3 units that spontaneously reboot for no reason whatsoeever. ASR does the reboot. If we shut off ASR, there is no blue screen. The box just hangs. Never an event in the event log.
One one box we've even gone so far as to replace EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT in tbe box except for the actual OUTER CASE of the system.
Anyone have ANY idea why this happens? It's only on ML370 G3's and it looks like I'm not the only one in this boat...

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
Have you installed the latest bios on the servers? There has been some microcode fixes to the processors that may solve this:

Let me know what you find? -john

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
Well, when one of the systems rebooted this morning I did apply the firmware updates on the latest SmartStart Firmware CD v7.10. Not sure if that's the same revision as the firmware link you sent. I'll check that to see if they are the same.
Did you find a technote or something indicating the fixes in that BIOS / Microcode / Firmware? Did it say anything about auto-magic reboots?

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
Well... if you take a look at the Revision History of the bios updates, there a lot of fixes related to many system hangs:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/6870.html
Are you running the health drivers from the PSP? You must have the drivers and agents running to reset the ASR timer from within the O/S.
Are these up to date?
Win2003:

Win2K:

Let me know what you find? -john

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
The problem has been resolved after HP Tech replaced back plane of the server.
Check with HP support to replace back plane of your server.

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
The heavy workload on that box was transitioned elsewhere. Seems to be workload related. Now that box is basically idle it no longer happens.
I agree it may be the backplane. When we put a load back on the machine if the problem returns we'll request that be replaced first.

Re: ML370 G3 Spontaneous Reboots
Removing and deliberately reinstalling them very firmly and directly into the slot resolved all spontaneous reboot problems.
