ML370 G3 and Smart Array 641 - How much can it handle?

Currently our server only has 4 x 36GB. From what I see on the specs on HP.ca it can handle up to 6 x 72.8 GB.

The HP.ca site also tells me that our server can handle up to 12GB of RAM. I believe that we are at 4GB.

Does anyone know differently? Is there something I'm overlooking?

I'm new to the HP servers, so I'm a little unsure how to read the specs sometimes.

Re: ML370 G3 and Smart Array 641 - How much can it handle?

Hi!

According to the quickspec this server is a ML370 G3. This server supports up to 8 internal hard drives with the Optional ML3xx Internal Two Bay Hot Plug SCSI Drive Cage 4 option part number 244059-B21.
- And the Maximun Internal Storage capacity is 1.174 TB (6 x 146 GB 1 inch Ultra 320 hot plug hard drives with standard internal drive cage + 2 x 146.8 GB 1 inch Ultra 320 Hot plug hard drive using the optional Two Bay Hot Plug SCSI Drive Cage)

And this server supports up to 12GB of RAM, wich consists on populating all the Memory slots with 2GB of RAM on each slot. Spare part number 300702-001 (2-GB DDR DIMM PC2100, 1.2-in)

That's what I was getting from the quickspecs too.

Now I'm trying to figure out why our vendor would tell us that this server is at its maximum capacity for RAM and HDD space.

Hmmm......

It might be the maximum capacity of RAM for the Operating System if you have a 32bit operating system. If you have more than 4GB it might recognize only 4GB or less, but it can be resolve by entending the Physical Address Extension (PAE)
