ML370 G4 server and Formatting the HDDs

Hi Guys,

Got a bit of a dilemma. We need to format a server to prevent secure data from being recovered.

I have tried many different ways to do this, but they all run into the same problem. I cant seem to see the hard drives when I try to do anything.

At first I thought it was because they were in RAID 5, so I used the HP ACU to take them out of Raid and just loose, but this didnt help.

I then tried to put the individual drives into a seperate array each and logical drive, but no matter what I do, the windows CD, Boot and Nuke cd, and linux CDs cant see the hard drives.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

Are you wanting to basically wipe the drives so the data is lost and unrecoverable? We use the ACU to do this. Delete any logical drives and then delete any arrays. If you have wiped the drives, you won't be able to see them until you rebuild.

Thanks Rancher.

I was thinking about doing it as such. My boss swore that he formatted it last time with a windows disk.

I followed your advice and yes, everything is gone.

Thanks!

You could install a SCSI controller.
Connect the Drive cage to the SCSI controller, wich will discover the drives individually.
Then it should be possible to nuke them 1 by 1.

My guess.
