ML370 Memory question and raid problem

Hi all, i'm new to this forum but i'm sure I will be making a lot of posts as we are digging out a bunch of old 370's and putting 2003 on them :)

We have one ml370 that has raid 5 setup with 6 18.2 gig drives and partitioned into 2 logical drives and server 2003. It only had 512 megs of ram so I purchased 2 sticks of 1GB ECC Registered SDRAM. After installing them the server would not boot (i'm assuming I need to flash the bios, or the chips are just too much for it.) I put back the old ram, but now when I boot the server I get the message:

Compaq Intergrated Smart Array Controller (ver. 1.42) 2 Logical Drives

Compaq Remote Insight (Hit F8 to configure)
177-Configuration Not Complete
Controller Order Not Setup

Press F1 to Continue
F10 for System Partition Utilities

Ok so i'm afraid of loosing my logical drives. Why did it do this and how do I configure it so I don't lose anything?

I'm assuming the ram reset something...

Any help is greatly appreciated

Re: ML370 Memory question and raid problem

Hmm according to this thread I have a faulty power supply. Are the units from the 1600's compatible?

Also whats the maximum amount of ram these servers should be able to take?

Re: ML370 Memory question and raid problem

Maximum memory capacity is 4 GB (163902-001)
Just Run F10 select: System configurations -> configure Hardware -> save and exist (if one Array Controller, if two Verify Slot for Correct one as first Bootable Controller). Also there would be two F8 one for Remote Lights Out Board one for Array Controller. For now run F10 only - let us know.

... access to F8 at post and just Confirm Integrated as First. Also Run System Partition Update from

create all 4 diskettes make sure all new or fully formated, boot from first and select Update, it will ask you after to update ACU, Diagnostic and other settings just skip them. let me know after

Re: ML370 Memory question and raid problem

Wow, thanks for the support. I will have to wait until an evening when I can safely bring the server down. I'll let you know. Thanks
