ML370G2 + SA 532 with Ultra 320 disks?

Hello all,

I have an ML370 G2, with a Smart Array 532 (p/n 225338-B21) and 6 72GB Ultra 3 disks (p/n 289042-001).

One failed, and I've replaced the disk with a 72GB Ultra 320 disk (of which I have many).

However, the array fails to rebuild.

I have updated all the firmware, and still nothing.

I bought a lot of 320 disks as spares, and I checked at the time that they were supported, and all the documentation appears to suggest that they are. However, it doesn't seem to work.

Is it that I can't mix some 3, and some 320?

It's very frustrating.

Re: ML370G2 + SA 532 with Ultra 320 disks?

Hi,

Mixed speed will reduce the read/write performance but the rebuild should start

Maybe its coused by another HDD in the array which has a media error (bad sectors ect.)

If you attach the Array Diagnostic Utility report we can check that for you

Yes, the rebuild starts, but never completes. Upon rebooting a week later, it gives the same "drive failed, rebuild?" question.

How can I save the diagnostics report? To floppy?

Yes, floppy or USB

Re: ML370G2 + SA 532 with Ultra 320 disks?

Hmm. I can't seem to find the ADU - I find a version for Windows, and a version for Red Hat, but I'm running Gentoo, and although I've given it a good shot at installing the dependencies it is asking for, it's not liking it.

Is there a stand-alone CD perhaps? I've looked, but can't find one.

OK, I sussed it. I needed the "lib-compat" package in Gentoo.

Attached is my hpaducli report.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Re: ML370G2 + SA 532 with Ultra 320 disks?

Hi,

Smart Array 532 in slot 1 : Storage Enclosure 2 : Drive Cage on Port J2 : Physical Drive 2:0 : Monitor and Performance Statistics

Recovers Failed Read 0x001c

This means unable to read the recovery info off of this drive, so there is a problem with the drive in slot 0

COMPAQ BD0726536C

You will have to replace this one (backup before that)

Wow.

Thanks very much for your help with this. 10 points coming your way as soon as I've posted this.

Why isn't the fault light on the drive then? Is it wrong to assume No light = disk OK?

Also, I guess with 1 drive already failed, the array won't be able to rebuild the other one that has the problem you just found. :/

If I understood correctly the server is still bootable(if only 1 disk failed this means the array is degraded, but still operational). So you can backup your data replace HDD in slot 0 and restore from the backup after that
