ML370G5 with P400 - drive always is failed

Our customer has ML370G5 with two P400 + two drive cages + 16 SAS HDDs.

In one cage the certain slot for HDD always notifies us about failed drive. We have POST error number 1787 - asking us to replace failed drive. We do that, but nothing changes. We have several HDDs that work perfectly in other slots, but not in this one.

Both P400 controllers have 512BBWC + latest firmware. The server RBSU has latest firmware.

Any ideas?

Could be a problem with the SAS Backplane. Try changing the backplane.

I've just replaced cage with backpane. When I power on the server - during the POST I receive message that hard-drived have been replaced and it ask me to place in correct order (BUT all HDDs are in the same positions).

Hmm, that's strange.
Are you sure that the cables are correctly installed after replacement? Otherwise - it should work.

And what happens if you remove the "prmanently failed" HDD?

Yes. Cables and HDDs are on the same places.
When I place the old cage back - everything is fine except one failed drive.

If I remove "failed" HDD - nothing happens.

The configuration is the following:

4HDDs(RAID1+0) | 1HDD | 1HDD | 2HDDs(RAID1)

The failed "slot" is the third one. So I have my RAID1+0 w/o redundancy now. And I can't restore redundancy because any HDD installed in that "slot" is marked as failed.
