ML380 G6 Server

hi,
I got a new ML380 G6 Server which I need to build as a windows 2008 server for my client.
I got 300Gb X 4 SAS disks as well.
I am ok with installing windows on the server but I dont have any experience in setting up disk array etc. I would like to put the disks on a RAID 5 array.
From where should I need to start?
Thanks

Re: ML380 G6 Server

You have access to the raid controller during boot up from the BIOS screen.

You can also use the SmartStart CD and run ACU from there and configure the array.

You need to have the P410i/256MB option to be able to create raid5. If you bought the P410i/ZM option you can only create raid0/1/1+0

Re: ML380 G6 Server

Boot the smartstart CD and run ACU - this will show you the controller model and you can configure your RAID.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ML380 G6 Server

Hi,
How would you recommend to use the disks?
i meant logical drives? Partitions Etc?
I am going to use this as a DC+file server+web server+An application.
Thanks
Torsten.

Re: ML380 G6 Server

Since you create a RAID and logical drives, any partitioning doesn't make sense.
Try ACU and you will understand.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ML380 G6 Server

Hi,

start up your server in POST mode(Power On Self Test) you can see your Array Controller With BBWC details .
your Controller appear with red text like:
Smart Array P410i 512MB
After that press F8 key to enter the ORCA consol and you can configure the raid controller or with smart start cd you can catch
the ACU (Array Configuration Utility) to configure your Controller .

I see.

C for OS : may be 200GB
D for shared files + web application : 400GB

Thanks
