ML530 Hot Swap drives

Hi guys,
i have an ml530 G1 rackmount server. one of the drives in the array has gone and died on me. its a raid 5 partion which i created in smartstart. i have never changed hot swap drives before and my question is fairly simple, do i just rip the drive out and whack a new one in when the machine is on and in windows? or at bootup? does it matter if theres unwanted data on the new drive?

Hi tim

You can rip the drive out and whack a new one in when the machine is on and in windows. RAID controller will rebuild the RAID automatically. Rebuilding process may take couple of minutes depending on the size of drive

Hi,
just whack the new disk when the machine is on and in window, you can check the rebuilding process from event viewer.
