ML570 G4 Doubts

Hi,

We are acquiring 5 ML570 G4 Servers and 42U Rack for Oracle implementation.

How many Servers are recommended per Rack. Can I put all the servers in one rack since they are 6U each?

Please reply ASAP

Best regards,

Raj

Re: ML570 G4 Doubts

Hi Raj,

Looks fairly simple to me...

5 servers @ 6U = 30U
30 is less than 42 ,so yes you can fit all servers in one rack.

If you're concerned about weight then don't be. The 10000 series rack can handle a load of up to 908kg. The maximum weight of the ML570 G4 is 62.14kg, so you're well within limits there.

Specs for the ML570 G4 are here:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12474_div/12474_div.html

Specs for the 10000 series 42U rack are here:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10995_div/10995_div.html

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Re: ML570 G4 Doubts

Raj, ML570 G4's maximum weight is just above 62 kg (137 lb), and HP 10000 series racks support up to 909 kilos (2000 lb) - about 3 times the weight of 5 ML570 G4s. It's safe to assume that even non-HP 42 rack will support these servers, so yes, you can put all of them in one rack.

I would like to know what is the recommended practise considering heat problems

Re: ML570 G4 Doubts

Raj, just two best practices:
1) Check with your rack manufacturer if the rack can handle the the weight of your servers (if you have HP racks they will handle your 5 ML570 G4's).

2) Check if your floor will be able to handle the weight of your severs and and the rack.
That IMHO pretty much all.

Re: ML570 G4 Doubts

Hi,

The maximum heat output of a ML50 G4 is 5457 BTU/hr. If your air conditioning can cope with an additional 6 times that figure you should be ok.

Just remember to fill the remaining 12U of rack space with blanking panels to maintain the airflow correctly in the rack - the servers suck cold air in the front and blow hot air out of the back.

Cheers,

Rob
